Commissioner of Police Tang King Shing has warned on radio that anyone with the pictures on their computer, even without any record of distributing them, are in breach of the law. The Commissioner’s remarks, criticised as irresponsible, caused outrage among the Hong Kong public, who questioned the police’s selectiveness and heavy-handedness in this case, as compared with previous cases of pornography distribution on the internet. Lawmaker “Long Hair” Leung Kwok Hung and about two dozen people protested outside police headquarters in Wan Chai, accusing the police of sowing confusion and creating an atmosphere of terror among netizens, and urged Commissioner Tang to clarify whether or not keeping the pictures violated the law.

Eventually, the police clarified that “people who had only transferred the obscene picture files to friends had not violated the law, but those who had posted them to internet web pages would be in breach of the law”, causing law-fearing netizens to start sending the pictures to each other by email or MSN, or turn to mainland China sites.

In the fallout:

* Edison has been dumped from the upcoming movie Jump <跳出去>, a joint production between Columbia Pictures and Stephen Chow’s (周星馳) company Star Overseas. All scenes involving Edison are said to have been cut from the film which also stars Kitty Zhang (張雨綺) and the launch of the movie has been postponed from May to October. Director Stephen Fung (馮德倫) has said that he now awaits the return of Stephen Chow and the arrival of a Columbia Pictures representative so they can begin recasting.

Edison Chen (陳冠希) had his scenes in an upcoming movie pulled yesterday, as a result of the recent sex photos scandal that has implicated him and famale celebrities, including Gillian Chung (鍾欣桐), Bobo Chan (陳文媛), Cecilia Cheung (張栢芝) and Yu Chiu (趙頌茹).

Columbia Pictures announced that its film Jump <跳出去>, a joint production with Stephen Chow (周星馳)’s company Star Overseas, which was due for release 1 May, has now been put back until 1 October. The Hong Kong-made film was to star Edison alongside Kitty Zhang Yuqi (Cheung Yu Yee orChang Yu Chi) (張雨綺).

Just when you thought the Edison Chen photo sex scandal could not get any worse, new shocking reports just hit the fan. Some newspapers are reporting that Edison's "interesting" photo collection didn't only contain pictures of nude Hong Kong actresses and singers like Gillian Chungand Cecilia Cheung but also the wives and daughters of predominant businessmen and members of Hong Kong's elite society.

It is true that Edison certainly has had his way with many women over the years being a leading man in HK movie scene but if this is true, his career is dead. Five companies have apparently canceled their contracts with Edison and he may also face lawsuits for violating the terms of contracts. It is reported that Edison has been blacklisted in Hong Kong entertainment industry.

The idea that Edison Chen had secret sexual affairs with the wives of rich and powerful men other than Cecilia Cheung is putting the HK elites in a panic. Out of the 1300 "Kira" reported having, only about 460 have been leaked so far.

With no more new photos release by “Kira” or any progress made by the police in the past few days, more speculation filled the papers just to keep the scandal going until Edison mads his schedule statement later this week.
